Jozi Socks

I studied in Johannesburg, which is close to my home town of Pretoria. I lived in the nurses’ residence for 4
years and from my 13th floor window I would look out over the city. I could see the Post Office Tower and the notorious Ponte circular building. I knew that I really wanted this vibrant city in the book and socks seemed such a great way to show off the skyscape. I am a very new sock knitter and not a sock designer at all, so I turned to my good friend Clare Devine and asker her if she would be willing to be the guest designer for the book. I love what she did with the idea.

Clare: Johannesburg is my home city. Although I have lived all over the world and no longer call Johannesburg my home, the city’s skyline always tugs at my heartstrings. The skyscrapers and towers rising high on the horizon frame a busy and vibrant city. These socks have been designed to capture the mixture of strong lines and richly textured detail found in the city I hold a special place in my heart for – Jozi.
